Final Music Magazine Advertisement

Design One

First I selected the images I wanted to feature on my music magazine advertisment. I reduced the contrast in the photograph on the bottom which allows font to be more visable.

After adding text about the details of the tour which will be advertised in a music magazine I decided to add details to promote the artist. For example twitter links and the record label. I decided for these logos to match the theme I would alter the colour. How I did this is shown below.

I decided to remove the record label and just place the logos of the 3 most popular social networking sites for my target audience. This is Facebook, twitter and Instagram. Doing this allows the audience to find Disclosure on these social networking sites to find more information. I have also added a positive review from a magazine.

Practice Music Magazine Advertisement

First of all I opened up Photoshop and selected 'File' and 'New' this window will then pop up, I selected 'International Paper' in the drop down menu under Preset. Next I made sure that size A4 was selected.

I began by placing an image of Disclosure in the centre of the page.

Next I added some text.

Then I filled the surroundings with the colour black.

Here is one of my final designs.

Conventions Of Music Magazine Advertisements

We were given the task of selecting a variety of music magazine advertisements and then analysed the conventions we could see. Typical conventions include the artists name, album name, an image, the record label, social networking links, a review and the release date. I am going to use most of these conventions in my own music magazine advertisement. Out of the magazine advertisements I have looked at I prefer a more simple design and I feel the image should be one of the most important parts. I may consider incorporating the CD Digipack on the advertisement as well to enhance symbiosis between products.

Existing Music Magazines

Q is one of the most known music magazines. It focuses on artists from the rock or pop genre. Such artists include Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Oasis and Lana Del Rey.

The average age of a Q reader is 32 which is slightly older than my rough target audience.

Clash

Clash magazine features artists such as Mac Miller, BANKS, Ella Eyre and M.I.A. I love the design of the magazine and even the website, everything is simple but effective and the photography is creative which is where the interest is focussed.

Clash magazine is much more suited to my target audience as the majority of their audience is in the 21-25 age range. Also I like that there is pretty much a 50/50 divide between gender meaning there is a wider audience to advertise to.

Kerrang!

Kerrang magazine focuses on rock music and includes artists such as Green Day and Paramore.

The target audience of Kerrang! would suit Disclosure's target audience in terms of gender and age range however the genre is not suitable.
